1. PM Modi inaugurates ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav 2024’: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav 2024’ at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on 6 December. The name Ashtalakshmi is inspired by the eight incarnations of Goddess Lakshmi, who are symbols of prosperity, wealth, knowledge, religion, and agriculture etc.
‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav 2024’ will continue till December 8.
- Ashtalakshmi Festival focuses on the eight north-eastern states of India.
- A commemorative postage stamp was released during this inauguration ceremony.
- Union North Eastern Region Development Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had announced to celebrate this festival on 29 November.
- Eight state governments of the North-Eastern states are participating in the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav celebrations.
- The 8 states of the North-East are Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura.
- Earlier, the North-Eastern region of India consisted of 7 states and were called Seven Sisters.
- Sikkim became a member of the North Eastern Council in 2002 and the term Seven Sisters ceased to be used for the North Eastern states.
- The festival will showcase the cultural richness and diversity of the North Eastern states.
- Apart from cultural programmes, there will be programs like handicraft demonstration, technical sessions and investment.
- Rural Haat Bazaar is also being organised, in which the art of 320 farmers and artisans of the North-East will be showcased.

2. Defense Minister will visit Russia: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Russia on 9 December. He will be the chief guest at the commissioning ceremony of INS Tushil. Navy Chief Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi will also be present with him.
Indian Navy gave this information by tweeting on social media platform X on 6 December.
- In October 2021, the 7th Indian Naval Frigate of the P1135.6 category was launched at the Yantar Shipyard in Russia in the presence of the then Indian Ambassador to Russia D. Bala Venkatesh Varma and Indian Navy officials.
- During the ceremony, Datala Vidya Verma named the ship ‘Tusheel’.
- The Sanskrit word Tusheel means ‘protector’ in Hindi.
- A large number of indigenous missiles have been installed in this warship.
- INS Tushil is part of the Talwar Class Stealth Guided Missile Frigate.
- The displacement of this warship is 3850 tons and its length is 409.5 feet, beam is 49.10 feet and draft is 13.9 feet.
- INS Tusheel can move at a maximum speed of 59 kilometers per hour in sea.
- Earlier in July 2024, PM Modi had visited Russia for 2 days after 5 years. He attended the 22nd India-Russia Annual Conference.

3. Food Ministry launches ‘Anna Chakra’ portal: Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi launched the ‘Anna Chakra’ portal on December 5. Through this, supply of food items under the Public Distribution System (PDS) will be easier. This step is estimated to save the government Rs 250 crore every year.
The system, developed in collaboration with the World Food Program and IIT-Delhi, uses best-in-class algorithms to optimize the movement of food grains in the country’s logistics network.
- The Food Minister also launched the ‘Scan’ portal, through this single window system food subsidy claims can be submitted and processed.
- Anna Chakra and Scan portal has been launched to simplify the public distribution system and subsidy claim mechanism of the states.
- The Anna Chakra initiative will cover about 4.4 lakh ration shops and 6,700 warehouses in the country.
- This initiative will save fuel consumption, time and logistics cost in transporting food items from one place to another.

4. Sunit Mehta appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Fiji: On December 5, IFS officer Sunit Mehta was appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Fiji. He is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of 2007 batch. Suneet will assume charge soon.
Mehta is currently working as Deputy High Commissioner in the Indian High Commission, Canberra.
- Relations between India and Fiji are based on mutual cooperation and strong cultural contacts.
- The Forum on India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) was formed and its first meeting was also held during PM Modi’s visit to Fiji in November 2014.
- The objective of FIPIC is to improve India’s relations with the countries of the Pacific Islands region.
- FIPIC consists of 14 Pacific island countries – Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
- This platform serves as a platform for issues like climate change, renewable energy, health and education.
- Fiji is officially known as the Republic of Fiji.
- Its capital and largest city is Suva.
- Its official languages are English and Fijian.
- The currency here is Fiji Dollar (FJD).
- Fiji President Ratu Viliame Cotoniveri and Prime Minister S. Is Rabuka.
5. Gautam Singhania became the executive chairman of Raymond Lifestyle: On December 5, Gautam Hari Singhania was appointed the executive chairman of textile company ‘Raymond Lifestyle’. Earlier the shareholders of the company had approved this.
Under a special proposal in the Annual General Meeting, Gautam Singhania got 86.85% votes to make him the executive chairman of the company and fix his remuneration.
- The company’s shareholders approved 8 more special proposals, which, apart from the appointment of independent directors, also included the proposal to make Sunil Kataria the managing director of the company.
- According to the provisions of the Companies Act 2013, at least 75% of the members’ votes on the special proposal should be in favor.
- Raymond Lifestyle has recently been listed on the stock exchanges following the demerger of the lifestyle business from Raymond Limited.
- Its listing in the stock exchanges took place on September 5, 2024.

6. Fadnavis becomes Chief Minister of Maharashtra for the third time: A new government was formed in Maharashtra 13 days after the assembly results on 5 December. Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Chief Minister for the third time in 10 years. Former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde took oath as Deputy CM and is the second leader of the state to become Deputy CM after the CM.
The oath ceremony started at 5:31 pm at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, which lasted for about 30 minutes. Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath in Marathi.
- After Shinde, NCP leader Ajit Pawar took oath as Deputy CM. He has become the Deputy CM of the state for the sixth time. He has become the first leader from Maharashtra to be the Deputy CM in both the Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi coalition governments.
- Half an hour after the oath taking ceremony, Fadnavis, Shinde and Ajit reached the ministry.
- In the first cabinet meeting, Devendra Fadnavis decided to provide assistance of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Medical Relief Fund for the treatment of Pune patient Chandrakant Shankar Kurhade.
- Voting was held on 288 assembly seats of Maharashtra on 20 November and the results came on 23 November.
- Mahayuti got 230 seats. In this, 132 MLAs of BJP, 57 of Shiv Sena and 41 of NCP won.
- Whereas, Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) got 46 seats and others got 12 seats. In MVA, Shiv Sena (UBT) won 20 seats, Congress 16 and Sharad Pawar’s NCP won 10 seats.
- The majority figure to form the government in Maharashtra was 145.

History of 6th December: On this day in 1992, lakhs of kar sevaks in Ayodhya had demolished the disputed structure of Babri Masjid. There was a controversy going on for years regarding Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani started the movement in 1990 for the construction of Ram Temple. From the morning of 5 December 1992, Karsevaks started reaching near the disputed structure in Ayodhya. At that time, the Supreme Court had given permission only to perform bhajan-kirtan in front of the disputed structure, but the next morning i.e. on 6th December, the crowd became furious and demolished the disputed structure of Babri Masjid.
On November 9, 2020, the Supreme Court had given its decision regarding the ownership rights of the land.
