Due to increase in elderly population in China, government expenditure will increase, working people will decrease and pressure on the economy will also increase. In such a situation, China has only one solution in the long term – increasing the population of young people and for this China will have to increase its birth rate. However there is a big problem with this.

According to a report by news agency Reuters, China’s youth are becoming reluctant about marriage and love. According to a survey by China Population News, 57% of China’s college students do not want to fall in love. According to the report, China is asking its colleges and universities to start love education programs to make students think positive about things like marriage, love, reproduction and family.

The government says that college students should be taught things related to marriage and childbearing. Students in senior courses and graduate programs should do case studies and group discussions to enhance intimate relationships and communication with people of the opposite gender.

The cabinet of China is called the State Council. It has started efforts to reduce population decline. The Cabinet has asked the state governments to devote all resources to improving the attitude of the youth towards child birth and marriage at the right age.

According to media reports, career difficulties and unemployment are the major reasons behind youth not getting married in China.

There is a two-day national entrance exam for admission into universities and colleges in China. In this exam named Gaokao, questions from Chinese Literature, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English, Politics and History are asked. This exam is considered one of the most difficult entrance exams in the world. Lakhs of youth appear for the exam, but only a few thousand get admission in college. Even after this the struggle is no less. The college curriculum in China is very difficult.

The situation of jobs after completing studies is also not good in China. White collar jobs are disappearing. There is a recession in the property sector. By September 2023, the unemployment rate of youth aged 16 to 24 years in China has reached an all-time high i.e. the highest ever at 12.1%.

At the same time, the entrance exams of top colleges in India are difficult. Also, in almost all government jobs, lakhs of candidates apply for just a few thousand posts. Whereas in India the unemployment rate of youth between 15 years to 24 years is 15.79%.

According to the YouGov-Mint-CPR report, 40% of millennials in India from families with monthly income of less than Rs 10,000 said that they are not financially ready for marriage. Only 20% of the youth in rich households earning more than Rs 60,000 were not ready for marriage.

However, there are some other reasons behind not marrying in India. For example, 35% of the youth above 30 said that they hate marriage because of not finding the right partner. Whereas women in India are more interested in love marriage. 41% of Millennial men want love marriage, while 49% women of the same age group want love marriage.
